Music has the power to change lives. Music helps students gain confidence and skills that will be great assets to them for the rest of their lives. In my class I will help students gain confidence by encouraging them to do their best and improve with every performance. In my class students will learn to work together, prioritize, be prepared, be organized, be on time and be responsible for their equipment.
“Where words fail, music speaks.” (Hans Christian Anderson) In my life music has allowed me to express my feelings and emotions without words. Music has brought me closer to God. Music brings me joy and gives me confidence. Music has made such a difference in my life, I will strive to give my students the same kind of experiences.
One of my main goals for my students is to make them more independent. It is important for musicians to be highly independent. The music world is highly competitive and there won’t always be a director or teacher there to help them learn their parts. College musicians must be very independent and as a music educator it is my job to prepare them for college. Students need to know how to take initiative not only with their music but in everyday life and other classes.
To reach this goal I will expose my students to a wide variety of music, and increase their repertoire. I will have my students perform at wide variety of events in a wide variety of venues. I will encourage my students to participate in small ensembles and try solos. As a group I will work to improve their technical skills, so they become more independent about learning their parts.
